Current Events

As a few people may know, Tonga (MMT) had a rugby league game against New Zealand (The Kiwi's) at Mt smart stadium. The result was revenge for the Kiwis after Tonga had beaten them in the World Cup 18 months ago. The Kiwis were too clinical, scoring six tries against three in a disciplined display. Shaun Johnson was in fine form, scoring two tries in the 10 minutes before halftime to put his team 16-4 ahead. He added a third try in the second half. It was a sweet double for the playmaker in his 30th test, coming at the ground where he built his reputation with the Warriors over eight seasons before a bitter departure for Cronulla over the off-season. Captain Dallin Watene-Zelezniak said Johnson’s value on and off the park can’t be underestimated. “He’s a freak, it’s really nice to have him in our team. We’re lucky to have him,” the skipper said. Just as influential was hooker Brandon Smith, whose frustration at a lack of starts for Melbourne may have been behind his dynamic display. Smith opened the scoring with a sensational 35-metre solo try from dummy half before setting up Roger Tuivasa-Sheck soon after halftime with a burst and grubber which struck the upright.
The Kiwis have thrashed Tonga 34-14 in the inaugural Oceania Cup test.

Thank you letter

Thank you letter
Miss Elia
Principal
Glenbrae School
Leybourne Circle
Glen Innes

Dear Miss Elia

Thank you for looking after me for the past four years. In such a small amount of time, you’ve done so much for Glenbrae school and for myself. You are one unique principal, you are hard working, you are courageous, you help build up our confidence, you solved silly issues / problems / dramas and you did many more things that no words can explain. I can’t describe how lovely you have been to me for the past four years.

Although, its been four years since I started at Glenbrae School, I still can remember my first day being amazing. I remember you walking me up to my class along side my family, and saying “Have a great day, I’ll check up on you after school”. That literally made my first day at school the best day EVER! Another memory I remember really well was from this year, I remember how It was raining one Friday and we had technology. When you came to pick up four students, you picked up Candice, Tangimetua, Iki and I. I remember you asking “Are you all buckled up?”. Right at that moment, we all started laughing because Candice said “Oh miss, I can’t find mine!”. It was really funny and also really fun getting dropped off by the Principal of Glenbrae.

I’m feeling quiet emotional about you leaving because you are such an amazing person who has a kind heart. Thank you for organising school trips, camp and other fun events. I’m pretty sure all students are thankful for all you do. You’ve done so much that not even what the school does can add up to the amount of things you’ve done. I’m really, really, really thankful that I got to meet you because when I first saw you, I thought you would be strict but as I spent time with you, I realised I was wrong. You are lovely, caring, supportive and many more things.

I want to wish you all the best for the rest of your retired life. I know you will travel to Australia after you have a little break. I hope you travel loads and make new connections with countries all around the world. Look after yourself, your health and just make the most of you retirement because you deserve to have a little bit of fun with your life. May God bless you always and may He be with you forever.
Yours sincerely

Kiwi Sport

Today was our last session of Badminton. So, today we didn't waste any time. We got straight into a game called around the world, not the around the world game you play that's similar to GKQ (General Knowledge Questions. The game we played needed a racket and a badminton shuttle. We also needed to get into two equal teams. After we were all organised, we got straight into it.
Minutes later, We were done. Joe (the coach) divided us up into four teams. Two teams played on one court, and the other two team played on another court. At the court I was at, we had a lot of hitting going up into the air and hitting the roof, and some people couldn't hit the badminton shuttle which made both teams laugh out loud including the teacher (Mrs Tofa). 10 - 15 minutes later, We were all called down to the floor. Joe announced the two best badminton players that improved a lot in his eyes, and the two students were Mathew and Kalolaine. At first, he didn't know they were siblings until someone called out they're brothers and sisters. The expression on his face made us laugh. For the last two minutes we had, we decided to spend it playing champion vs champion. Sadly, I couldn't play because I'm didn't win once, but it doesn't matter. At 10:20, The next class came in and we lined up on the side of the hall waiting for everyone to line up. Today's session was very fun and I hope with all the skills I've learnt during badminton will be remembered.
Thank you!

Book Study - The Creepers Diaries (New Creeper at School)

This week for reading, room 7 have been focusing on sharing books we've read and creating a DLO about our understanding from the book. The book that I decided to do is called "The Creepers Diaries, New Creeper at School". This book is written by Greyson Mann and is illustrated by Amanda Brack. Here is a DLO I created about my understanding from the book. For your information, I'm half way through the book, not quiet finished.

Lego Art.

Today, after lunch, we did Lego Line Drawings. I decided to draw something real basic because I hate drawing. The reason to that is because I can't draw! About my art work, I drew Emmet Brickowski. I drew him because I thought he was easy to draw and turns out hes not really. With the help of my friend Francesca. We drew this!

PWC Reflection

PWC Reflection
Yesterday and Today were our first and second session of Financial literacy.  We had two mid-aged men named Peter and Adam. They taught us about Savings and Borrowing, Income and expenses, Keeping our identity safe and privet, Why Insurance is Important. We learnt all these things because, these are things we need to learn before we grow up so we can make good choices in the future with our upcoming lives.

Savings and Borrowing - We learnt that it's best to save up money instead of borrowing because, borrowing can take quiet sometime to actually get the money, but once you get it and buy what you need / want, you might need extra cash. So, we all agreed it's best to save money and make sensible choices with your money. Not only when you borrow money you need to be trustworthy, e.g: If you borrow someone's DVD, they will be expecting it back all in one piece and on time. Being a good borrower all comes down to how TRUSTWORTHY you are.!

Income and expenses - Income means, Money you earn or get for doing something such as working. Expenses is how you spend the money.  We learnt a few different things about Expenses rather than both. I picked up that people need to cut down the amount of money we spend on things we want instead, we need to save money.

Keeping our Identity Safe and Privet - This was one of the main and most important things we had to learn about. Keeping our identity safe is really important because, It's the most important thing to us. It helps people recognize who we are as a human and different information about us, make up our identity. As we were listening to Peter talk about what makes up our identity, Adam interrupted by asking us a question and it was "As you grow, what part of your face doesn't change?" We were all dazed and confused, Students started throwing answers such as "Your Eyes, Your Lips, Your Nose, Your Face!". Which was totally out of line. It was actually our EARS! We laughed hard and loud that our teacher in the library could hear us through the wall. Peter continued talking when the class was silence. During this session, It was pretty full on and all worth it because, we learnt so much.

Why Is Insurance Important? Insurance is very important in case of an emergency. Insurance companies help provide money if you need it. There are different types of Insurance such as Health Insurance, House Insurance, Car Insurance, Contents Insurance, Pet Insurance and much more. So, These Insurance companies work differently, but they all have at least one thing in common and that is they provide money when you need it. House Insurance, Car Insurance, Health Insurance and Contents Insurance help you with money basically during every emergency state. So, If you think you'll go through something horrific and you don't want anything to happen to your house, car, your health and the things inside your house, Get INSURANCE now when you can. (Recommended age - 18 years of age and above.)

POV! - Today was a Great day. It was the best way to start of the morning. We've learnt so much about savings and much more thanks to PWC. PWC has done so much for our school, not only with coming once a year and teaching us about Financial Literacy, but also helping our school by providing us TOITOI books and much more. These people are honestly the BEST!

Thanks PWC x.

Writing - Character

WALT: PLAN OUR CHARACTERS WITH DETAIL!
Today for writing, my writing group and I focused on building characters for our Narratives. We also focused on how we will mention them in our Writing and when we mention them, are they going to be exact? So, that is what we focused on for today. Mine is quiet basic and quiet common, because most of the things I want in my character are mostly found on everyone's faces. (LOL). Here is my character planning.

Genomics (Introduction, Learn & Create)

LEARN!
Genomics

Fill in the blank words. All the answers are in the text.

All living things on earth, from the tiniest creatures
to the tallest of trees, are made of Microscopic parts called cells.

Inside the cell, membrane cells have smaller parts called organelles.

Vacuoles are basically storage tanks that the cell uses to hold
water or other materials.

Chloroplasts are found only in plant cells and contain chlorophyll,
the substance that allows photosynthesis to take place.

Answer these questions about the text
What is a cell? E.G. - A small room in which a prisoner is locked
up or in which a monk or nun sleeps/ cell uses to hold
water or other materials.
What things have cells in them? Animals, Trees / Plants and Humans.
What allows photosynthesis to take place? Photosynthesis takes
place inside plant cells in small things called chloroplasts.
What is photosynthesis? Photosynthesis is a process used by plants
and other organisms to convert light energy into chemical energy.
What is an ER? Endoplasmic reticulum
What happens when the plant does not get enough water? It dies out.
What are Organelles? Organelles are membrane-bound
compartments found inside of eukaryotic cells.
Organelles are separated from the rest of the cell by a lipid bilayer.
What do cell walls do for plants? The main functions of the cell wall
are to provide structure, support, and protection for the cell.
What is the powerhouse of the cell? Mitochondria are known as
the powerhouses of the cell. They are organelles that act like a
digestive system which takes in nutrients, breaks them down,
and creates energy rich molecules for the cell.

Technology - Wood

Today is our second round of wood technology. Today, I also chose to make a Jewelry / Jewellery tree and it will be made for my mum. This is the best design out of the eight designs that I drew because my mum  likes wearing rings, necklaces and bracelets. It will be used by my mum because I thought maybe when she wants to take them off she can just hang them on and not place them somewhere where she might lose them. It will be placed in her bedroom and it can also be her everyday jewelry tree. I will consider (think about) the smoothness, the shine,  the color, the finish product and ways it can be used differently.
