Day 5 - Friday 13 September
Today was our last day at camp. We woke up super early, did our morning routine, cleaned out our cabins, loaded our gear into the bus and had breakfast. It was very quiet because mostly everyone weren't excited to go back home / school and see their families.
After breakfast, we all did our chores. When we were done, we all gathered outside the common room. Chris and Magnus announced the winners from the Treasure Hunt, and that group was group D. We had a few laughs and sad speeches by some students which almost made us cry. We said our farewells and goodbyes and boarded the bus.
A few minutes later we were on the road, We sang and danced along the way back to Auckland. Most of us were tired so we fell asleep. Hours passed by and we finally reached Auckland. We drove for a few more minutes, almost 1/2 an hour and we finally reached Glen Innes, Glenbrae School.
Once we got back to school, We were all thrilled to see our families. We didn't say hello to our family members we didn't take our gear off, but we all had to gather around the front of the bus to preform a haka for Maiki (Our bus driver). After the haka we all did a hongi with Maiki then we all ran to our families. I got super emotional once I saw my mum, she gave me a warm hug and told me its okay, I'm back home. After taking our belonging's, we left school and went home!
I'm actually glad to be back home, but sad that camp is over and that's how camp was this year!

Day 4 - Thursday 12 September
Today we did the same thing as we did the past two days, in other words our morning routine which was, Getting ready for the day, Fitness, Breakfast, Packing our lunch and doing our daily duties. My group were on Kitchen duty which meant we had to wash the dishes, pack them away and just clearing out the area.
A few minutes later we loaded the bus to get ready for our trip to Russell. When we got to Russell, we were split into two groups. I was with group three with half my original group which is group two. We first visited Christchurch and we got to see a few graves including Tamati Wakanene and Hone Heke. Not only that, but we got to see the bullet holes on the sides of the church.
Next, we visited pompallier house. The building is located in Russel somewhere along the beach side and it's New Zealands oldest working factory. The house was very big and had so many rooms and things that really amazed me. While we were at pompallier house, we got to see how people use to make leather, how the made books back in the days and many more.
After that, we had a little break before heading up to Flagstaff hill. We had a little bite which were cookies and nuts. About 10 minutes later, we were all finished and we were ready to go to flagstaff hill. As we walked we had to walk in one line because there were cars coming down our way. A few minutes passed and we finally made it to flagstaff hill. It was a very tiring walk but worth it because the view was nice and we could see the Tasman Sea and the Pacific Ocean kind of blend in with eachother. We also got to learn about how Hone Heke and his men were so sneaky about cutting the flagstaff down so many times without getting caught. Not only did we learn that, but we learnt that if you sail from Russell and you go straight you come across two Islands.
After visiting Flagstaff hill, we visited Russell Museum. The museum was small but very nice and had so many things that have been stored in there for over 100 years. One thing that caught my attention the most was Captain Cooks ship. It wasn't the actual size of his ship, it was only 1/5 of it. It was pretty big, and the sails were so low that everytime I wanted to go to the other side I'd end up hitting my head on them, but it was very nice getting to read and see things at the museum.
To end the day, we went to long beach. 7 students got to go swimming first while the rest played games such as rugby and volleyball. Since I got chosen to go in first, I took a ball with me into the water to play tag with. It was very hard to throw the ball without it hitting the water and, it was also hard to run in the water but fun. Once everyone got to have a swim, we gathered our gear and loaded the bus, and headed straight back to Orongo Bay. When we got there, we got sent to go shower, help out with preparing dinner and some of us got told to pack our gear so we can leave early tomorrow.
After dinner, we wrote our evening reflections. Once that was done, day 4 was over for us.

Day 3 - Wednesday 11 September 2019
Rewa's Village / Kemp House / Stone Store / Treasure Hunt
On our third day at camp, we traveled to Rewa's Village. We didn't go into Rewa's Village all together, but we were split up into two groups and decided that G1 was going to visit Rewa's Village first and the other group to Kemp House and Stone Store. Firstly, G1 visited Rewa's Village.
In there, we had seen a lot of Patu, Shepards and many more weapons that represented each chief from every tribe. After that, we visited the outdoor houses that also represented the storage of food, animals and many many more. Then we walked around the area to look at the many different plant and trees. After 1 hour in Rewa's Village, we swapped activities and this time, G1 was in Kemp House and Stone Store and G2 were in Rewa's Village. In there, we saw more equipment used for war. Later on that day, after lunch, G1 and G2 went around the local area looking for codes for our Treasure Hunt.
After our daily activities were done, we visited Haruru falls. The view was nice and so was the sound of nature. We stood / sat there watching the water hit against the rocks with force. Out of nowhere a rainbow appeared. We stood there for a few good minutes before we loaded the bus and headed straight back to Orongo Bay.
When we got back to Orongo Bay, Group by group went swimming in the pool. First, Group 2 went., followed by Group 3 and finally Group 1. Group 2 needed to go frist because we were on kitchen duty, which meant COOKING!
After dinner we did our evening reflections and got ready for bed. 20 minutes later we were all gone from the common room into our cabins.

Day 2 - Tuesday 10 September 19
Kayaking / Bush Craft / Team Building
Today for our second day at camp, we started the day with fitness. After fitness, we had breakfast and started the day off with kayaking (G1). At Kayaking it was really great to learn how to work as a team and to mainly know how to paddle using a Kayak. Two hours later, it was time to head back to our cabins ready for our next activity, which was team building.
First up was Richie's Group. As we started solving it, it made us so confused that we got a little hint from Mrs Raj, and took us nearly 2 minutes to solve the patterns. After Richie's group, it was time for group 1 to solve the patterns, and took them nearly 1 minute to solve it. But I think it was so unfair, because Mrs Raj had helped them. Our last activity for the day, was Bush Craft. When we got to the shelter, we learnt how to keep everything tight, using a rope demonstrated by Chris.
After that, we split up into two groups to put up the tent. To put up the tent, we used Ropes and Sticks. The rope was to hold the tent and the stick was to hold the bottom of the tent so that it wouldn't fly off. We then checked each groups tent, and turned out to be that my group pitched the best tent. Later on that day, we set off into the bush looking for tea tree, Manuka, Twigs and dried sticks. After that, we headed back to the shelter to make fire.
Making the fire was pretty hard because the rain and the wind kept blowing out the fire not only that, but the matches was kinda wet but we managed to make it. We then boiled some water using the fire, and use the water for some milo (it was yummy). We then returned to the common room to watch a movie and have dinner. Credits to the cookers that cooked today.

Day 1 - Monday 9 September 19
Today we started our journey to camp at 7:45 after we all loaded the bus. We started of by loading our gear into the bus. Obviously we couldn't just leave without saying our farewells to our parents and fanau, So we said our goodbyes which lasted 5 minutes. Most of us were emotional but at the same time looking forward to experiencing what it's like being outside Auckland and also getting the opportunity to explore and also learn about the treaty of Waitangi / History of New Zealand.
During our Road trip to Whangarei, We played some music to keep us active. Candice and I, especially were super hyped and excited. We sang and danced throughout the whole trip while also looking at the trees ahead of us. At around approximately 11:30, we stopped at Whangarei for morning tea. We were only given 20 minutes because if we took more than 20 minutes, we would've reached Waitangi treaty Grounds late. At 12:15 we reached Waitangi. When we arrived we met Chris and Magnus who are our guides for the week.
Around 12:30 - 1:30 we were welcomed to the Treaty grounds with a very entertaining Powhiri / Maori Cultural performance. We enjoyed it very much and we also got the chance to perform our Haka / Waiata. When we finished our performance, We had a tour around the treaty grounds and also got the learn a few things that happened there such as the Treaty being signed.
4:00 we said thank you to our guides and also got onto the bus once again and traveled to Orongo Bay by ferry. We traveled for about 15 minutes until we reached Orongo Bay Holiday Park in Russell. We loaded off our gear and all headed outside our common room which is the room where we have dinner and also where we have talks about our daily activities.
Minutes later we all played a little team building in our little groups we were put into for the week. I was in group 2, I was the leader and I had 7 more other students that were in my team. After we played the game. We were all exhausted to we had our showers, Gathered in the common room, Had dinner, Wrote our Evening reflections and got ready for bed!!
1 day down 4 more to go!!
