Prince William meets with Mosque attack victims

Today, For current event reading, My Friends (Candice & Lilo) and I read about Prince William Meeting with Mosque Victims. We learnt that Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and Prince William have spent time in Christchurch meeting with the families of victims who died in the Christchurch mosque attacks and survivors. During his visit, the Duke of Cambridge expressed the royal family’s solidarity with the victims. The Prince was only in New Zealand for 3 days.

The Game of Love
and Death (Chapter 7)
There was a hill, and down the
hill, past the international district,
rose the Smith Tower, it’s lights glowing
against the black sky. Beyond that,
Puget sound. It has taken the better part
of two days, but Henry had convinced
Ethan to go on Flora’s nightclub, His
fingers twitched,  playing the notes of
the Enigma Variations.
23 - April
The Game of Love
and Death (Chapter 8)
After the show, Henry stood in the
alley outside the club and rapped
on an unmarked door while Ethan,
Making no effort to hide his mortification,
turned to face the street. No one answered,
so Henry waited a minute before knocking again.
24 - April
The Game of Love
and Death (Chapter 9)
The night had passed, Flora sat in her
small dressing room, holding a tall glass
of lemonade against her forehead. The stage
lights were always so hot she felt like
something out of an oven after a performance,
and nothing was better than something cold,
tart, and sweet to drink. As she lowered the
glass of sip, she tried not to think about
that one moment in her performance,
but it was just too difficult.

Infinity Ring, Cave of
Wonders (Caravans and Caramel)
The desert wind whipped around them,
Stirring up sand. Dak shielded his eyes
and used his shirt to cover his mouth to
keep from breathing in the grit. Sera and Riq
did the same. They were standing in the
middle of the dusty road and the three of
them having just wrapped from the Great
Wall in Ming-Dynasty / China.
25 - April (Anzac Day)
Infinity Ring, Cave of
Wonders (The Riddle of the Cave)
The Guard had one hand on the pommel
of the sword he wore at his waist. A few
minutes later, The guard looked all three of
them over, and took his time doing it.
“They came from Medina. How is it
you are wearing the clothing of China”.
The guard didn’t seem to be buying it.
He kept looking at their clothes. “You’re pretty
young to be working caravans”
For a moment, Riq worried that maybe
the man was a time warden, an undercover
SQ agent on the lookout for time travelers.
25 - April (Anzac Day)
Infinity Ring, Cave of Wonders
(The Streets of Baghdad)
The screen went black. Sera stared at it.
Really the message from Arin could not
have been any worse. Of all of them,
Sera was always the only one who had
seen the Cataclysm. She’d witnessed
firsthand what would happen to the
world if they failed in their mission to
repair the breaks. She also knew that
somehow, she had parents n, in the future,
a mother and father who had only
been Remnants before Sera.
25 - April
Infinity Ring, Cave
of Wonders (The Market Inspector)
Dak noticed immediately that Sera and Riq
were staring at him. Sera, especially,
looked worried, Maybe he should have
told them what he was about to do before
he did it. But they never seemed to like
Dak’s ideas worked out really, really well.
Other times……..!! He remembered
that there were storytellers who performed
on the streets. They hadn’t seen one yet,
but Dak didn’t see why he couldn’t try to tell
him a story. If people liked it and they
tossed him a few coins, maybe they’d
be able to buy some clothes.

A Legend of
Starfire (Chapter 10)
*Goosey, Goosey, Gander. Whither
dost thou wander? Upstairs and downstairs,
And up and over yonder*
Wren didn’t know how much time has
passed while they talked to Mary
and Cole. After a while Mary drew wren
over to the far side of the room, where
a beautiful wooden bureau stood
under a round mirror. “It seems that
many Magicians in the city don’t
know about Boggen’s horrible research”.
They’ve known for a several years
that Boggen was testing tainted stardust
on his prisoners and have worked
to thwart stardust.
27 - April
A Legend of
Starfire (Chapter 11)
*What did she dream? She does not know.
The fragment fly like chaff, Yet strange
her mind was tickled so, To do anything
but laugh.*
Wren instinctively reached for jack’s hand.
What were they going to do? There was
nowhere for them to run. If they went
back down the stair, they’d be in the
midst of Auspex’s fight. Wren was surprised
when one of the guards lowered his lance.
Jack laughed as though he knew what
Titus was talking and Wren hoped that
his bluffing would keep them going long
enough to figure out a way out of
the House of Never.
28 - April
A Legend of
Starfire (Chapter 12)
The steps kept curving down and around,
down and around, circling in on themselves.
Soon, The stairwell changed from sterile
metal to earthen walls with wooden steps.
The air grew damper. Then they were
funneling through an arched doorway,
older boys who must be leaders of some
kind holding the door for the
others to pass through.

Reading Log (Pt.2)

Reading Log (Pt.2)
Dates - From the 18th of April to the 21st. (Easter Day)

18th - April
A Legend of Starfire Chapter 5
Spindly building reached toward the gloomy sky, with balconies and bridges connecting them. She waited, wondering if the dream was going to show her something more, but she had barely taken a few tentative steps toward the forest’s edge when a crashing sound came from behind her. Her calculations were wrong this time. Wren stepped back wishing for the cover of the forest.
19th - April
A Legend of Starfire Chapter 8
With a whispered rhyme, he wove a shimmering loop of stardust and, before Wren could do anything but utter a cry of protest, bound it tight around her wrists. As far as I know, Mary and Cole had similar bonds around their mouths and torsos.
20th - April
The Game of Love and Death (Chapter 2)
Beneath a Heavy cushion of clouds, Henry stoop in the soft dirt of the infield. The space between the first two bases was a fine place for thinking, Somehow he got distracted because it smelled like gut grass. His feet had touched the grass as the team's center fielder, Ethan Throne, bare-handed the drive on the run, his long and loose limbs so sure of every movement that he possibily did.  Ethan fired it at Henry in the time of him to tag the runner dashing back toward the second.
20th - April
The Lost Boy.
In this comic, I read that there was a boy who went into the forest once and got lost with many directions, instructions and also many horrific things coming his way.  He was in danger. One day he ran into a girl about his age and they introduced themselves to each other and became very close friends. The next day he went to her father's house and there was a problem, As soon as they entered the room, many owls flew around the room, and so her father had to use something very powerful to stop it.
21 - April (Easter Day)
The Game of Love and Death (Chapter 3)
Flora Saudade on the lower wing of the butter yellow beechcraft staggewing C17B, ready to refuel the plane. No other diplane was crafted this way, It made the staggewing an oddity. Flora, an oddity herself, loved that about her staggwring. But this particular plane wasn’t hers, It belonged to Captain Girard, who’d known her father in the Great War and who’d been something like a father to her, since she was a baby herself, teaching her everything he knew about airplanes.✈️🛩️
21 - April (Easter Day)
The Game of Love and Death (Chapter 4)
It wasn’t long until Flora could make her first flight. Love had Materialized in Venice, a city made more beautiful by the fact that it was doomed. In front of an ornate church named for the man who’d run naked from the garden of Gethsemane after Jesus was sentenced to death. Mark’s bones had been smuggled there in a barrel of salted pork - a strange way to keep a man and his memory alive.🤢🤮
21 - April (Easter Day)
Tom gates - The Brilliant World of Tom Gates
Tom gates is a young boy who likes a boy band called “Dude3” and inspired him to make up his own band with his only two friends called “DogZombies”. Tom has a crush on a girl in his class named Amy, but it seems like his enemy Marcus, seems to get in the way every time he wants to talk to her. He joined the school Choir because Amy said it’ll be lovely to see him sing with her and that it’ll help his band with their singing. Marcus joined when he heard about Tom joining. Amy and Tom became very close at the end, and for the first time, Marcus was friendly enough to give his tickets to Amy and Tom to go watch Dude3 because he wasn’t a big fan of them.🤦‍♀️❣️

Reading log.

A week has passed and now one week left to go. All my home work is done, apart from my reading log, which I'm trying to do and read everyday. Here is an update on what my Reading log looks like so far.

Date
Book title/story
Summary of what I read
12th - April
A Legend of Starfire Chapter 1
In chapter 1, I was reading
about a girl named Wren
Matthews. She was holding
a pile of stardust in her palm,
but her fingers weren’t
cooperating, and was trembling
threatened to humiliate her
in front of all the other
Fiddler apprentices. Wren also
rarely wished she was just
a normal girl, someone
who couldn’t see
stardust or work magic.
12th - April
A Legend of Starfire Chapter 2
Inside the council chamber,
the members of the Fiddler
council were seated at an
ancient looking round table.
In the daylight, Their grays
layering up to the domed ceiling
of the room. Wren.
Whispered someone. Welcome.
Wren and a few friends went
undercover to find out what was
making such a noise.
17th - April
A Legend of Starfire Chapter 3
Wren turned to a corner that
had a long abandoned corridor
and in the lower levels of the
Crooked house and immediately
ducked back, reaching behind
her to motion Simon flat
against the wall. Wren knocked
once on a green door but didn’t
bother waiting for a response.
If Jack had Liza keeping
visitors out, He probably
wouldn’t welcome the two of
them in, She didn’t care
because she knew that
Jack was already
physically recovered.
17th - April
A Legend of Starfire Chapter 4
Beyond a ship, was a yawning
hole that opened up to a
starry sky ad a view of the
valley Wren had never seen before.
They were somewhere on the far
side of the Crooked House,
where aurora colors were just
beginning to flicker across
the landscape. The last time
she had flown the aurora,
she had been so intent
on stopping Jack and
she also thought about
the danger.

Maths - Problem solving

Maths - Problem solving (Last Set of Maths)
  1. Moana set her digital watch at 13:00:00 on the last day
of April. Unfortunately the watch loses 11 seconds a day.

What is the time on Moana’s watch when it is 13:00:00
on the last day of May?
Since there are 31 days between the last day of April and the last
day of May, Moana’s watch will have lost 31 x 11 = 341 seconds.
To convert this into minutes, divide by 60. Hence 341 seconds = 5 minutes
and 41 seconds. Then subtract 5 minutes 41 seconds from 13:00:00.
This gives 12:54:19. This is the time on Moana’s watch.
2. In parking meters downtown, you can get 15 minutes parking
for 50c. Dad put $3.50 into the parking meter at 3.15pm.
At what time did the parking meter expire?
$3.50 = 7 x 50c. 7 x 15 minutes = 105 minutes.
105 minutes = 1 hour and 45 minutes. 3:15 + 1:45 = 5:00.
So Dad can park in the car park up until 5 pm
3. There are four children in Marie's family.
She is less than 11 years old and is the oldest.
There's a two year age difference to twins, Grace and Lily,
who come next. Tom, who is older than 5 is two years
younger than the twins. How old are each of the children?
Marie - 10 Years old
Grace - 8 Years Old
Lily - 8 Years old

Tom - 6 Years Old

Writing (Pt.2) - Holiday Home Learning

Image result for recountImage result for 3 points
Recounts are awesome. Your experiences can
be told in words to capture your readers and
take them on a journey with you.
Task - Write a recount about the worst birthday
you have ever had. I’ve never had a bad Birthday yet.

Image result for speech titleImage result for 3 points
Speech writing is a very valuable skill.
When you have the ability to write speeches you can argue
your way through your words. Lawyers do that all the time.
Task - Write a one minute speech about one of these topics
  • Teachers should be paid more money
100% I agree, Teachers are striking for more money
and they deserve that amount of money they want because,
they work 5 times a week and they also spent their own money
on students with no school supplies and that are going through
problems. Teachers deserve more money, they don't deserve
what the government are doing, adding more to their basket.
Teaches go to work to teach students, not deal with silly
issues and not get told to do more work.
“They need the money.”
  • We should have a McDonald restaurant at every school
No way, *In my opinion*, I think that this is totally a bad idea,
We need to train ourselves to be healthy and fit. On the other hand,we also can’t have a Mcdonald restaurant at every
school because that's a lot of work for builders and
also, it’s going to become a distraction to the students learning.
Maybe we should just stick with students bringing their own
lunch from home or ordering something at school.
Driving skills should be taught at primary school
Maybe, Maybe not. Driving skills can be taught at Primary to get
students ready for the future if they want to drive, But it should be
in a specific class that are interested in learning driving school.
On the other hand, Driving skills being taught to students at the
age of 5 - 13 is going to get them into driving really soon, and the
next thing you know is that students are driving wildly around
the streets without license. So, if it was to be taught at primary
schools it should be for seniors only. (age: 10+)
Glenbrae School should have no uniform
I totally disagree with this. Glenbrae is a School and needs to be
recognized by people and if we have no uniform how are people
going to know what school we belong to. Glenbrae School is a
school, A school that should be recognized out in public,
and also if we are lost somewhere they people can
always google Glenbrae and contact the school and tell them
about a student from Glenbrae wondering around and is lost.
Every student should have a free day off school each week
This can be a good idea but at the same time they are missing
out 6 hours of learning a day, imagine a whole week without
even showing up at school, that's 30 hours of learning time '
being wasted.Unless, It’s urgent then they can but also
catch up with their learning at home with their supervisors,
parents, siblings and caregivers. Having a day off isn’t just
to stay home and relax, but to also catch up on the
learning you’ve missed out on during the week.
